This book. Gah. Six of Crows is honestly my new favorite book. It is written so beautifully and it's such a brilliant concept! I have heard many things about Leigh Bardugo's writing and may I say, I was NOT disappointed. This book is packed with humor, action, bad-ass fighting scenes, and awesome characters.
I will admit that I have not read the Grisha Trilogy yet. I understand that it Six of Crows is partially connected to the Grish Trilogy, but just haven't gotten to it. For those of you who have not read the Grisha Trilogy or Six of Crows, I was kind of confused at the beginning of the book. I eventually caught on to what was happening in the second chapter.
So, I have never really read a Heist novel before. Maybe I have, but I've never been interested in them. Well, that all changed once I ordered Six of Crows. I was so excited when I heard that this book was being released. It looked so intriguing and the cover... GAH ITS JUST SO AMAZING.
In Six of Crows, we follow six outcasts; Kaz, Jesper, Nina, Inej, Wylan, and Matthias. They are all assigned a mission to break someone out of prison. Apparently he is very important, so they are all offered a large reward in exchange for this man's freedom. I'm summarizing it a lot, but when you read the book it will all make sense. Their mission has a purpose, but if I explain that purpose a lot of things will be spoiled. ANYWAYS, I loved the writing style of the book because every character got to share their point of view.
Throughout the book, I got to understand where each character comes from and what their thoughts are. I really loved when the story dived into the characters backstory and their history with each other. Okay, I never mark book pages, but this book had such thought provoking or humorous quotes that I just had to.
The way the characters interacted with each other made me feel like I was inside the book. Six of Crows really pulls the reader in and the descriptions in this book were fantastic. This review probably doesn't give the book any justice.
My favorite character would have to be the main protagonist, Kaz. I love his character so much because he's so mysterious. The other characters always expressed how they don't understand why Kaz is... Kaz. His backstory made my heart break and I found myself wanting to know more about him. I also enjoyed his wit and how he could be such a stubborn jerk sometimes.
There were a lot of moments in Six of Crows that made my heart stop. The fighting scenes were described so well that I thought I was in the middle of them. I don't know if Six of Crows is a series or just a stand alone. I'm kind of iffy about a series, but I'm also iffy about a stand alone.
I HIGHLY recommend this to any reader. It's absolutely amazing. The charcters are amazing, the cover is breathtaking, and the plot is captivating. After reading Six of Crows, I will definitely be reading the Grisha Trilogy. What did you think of this book? Tell me down below! I hope you all had a spooky Halloween and Happy Reading!
